おおみそか、一年の締めくくりである。大掃除に明け暮れ、夜は家族みんなで「年越し蕎麦」を食べる。お蕎麦は食べるときに他の麺類よりも切れやすいので、今年一年の災厄を断ち切るという風習である。 Today is New Year’s Eve. In Japan the last day of the year is called Ōmisoka. People spend the day doing a major house cleaning. All the family have Toshikoshi soba. (Japanese traditional soba noodles bowl dish eaten on Ōmisoka). This custom lets go of hardship of the year because soba noodles are more easily cut while eating than other noodles.

皇居からの帰り道、東京タワーまで足をのばすことにした。ビルとビルの隙間から見える東京タワーに、どんどん近づいていった。 We made a decision to go for a further walk to Tokyo Tower on our way back home from the Tokyo Imperial Palace. We rapidly approached Tokyo Tower seen through small space among buildings.

先日、しゃけ(同居人)と、皇居まわりに散歩に行った。秋のお散歩日和、青空がとても綺麗である。皇居ランナー達が良い汗をかいている。しかし、くまは四足歩行なので走れないのである。 I went for a walk round the Tokyo Imperial Palace to enjoy nature with Shake (my housemate) the other day. The weather was ideal for a walk. The blue sky was so beautiful. The runners going round the palace sweated a great deal. Meanwhile I do not run because I walk on four legs.

くま、ポッキーの日を祝う Kuma celebrates Pocky Day

11月11日はポッキーの日(1999年より)。 The 11th of November is Pocky Day (Pocky and Pretz Day). The Ezaki Glico product Pocky is a long biscuit stick and represents the repeated number 1 in the numerical date (the 11th day of the 11th month). Ezaki Glico has depolyed an advertising campaign surrounding the date each year since 1999. Pocky Day has been certified as a memorial day by the Japan Anniversary Association.
